IRAQ WAR - DAY 13 US Said Prepared to Pay 'High Price' to Oust Saddam - By Jim Wolf

The United States is prepared to pay a "very high price" in terms of casualties to capture Baghdad and oust President Saddam Hussein, and to implement the "blueprint" (Project For The New American Century - aka PNAC) that was drawn up long before 911 and Saddam's WMD non-threat.

By WWII definition, "a lot of casualties" meant losing 1,000 people a day.

Blueprint for war was drafted in 1998

01APR2003 Prewar predictions coming back to bite - No joke! - By Susan Page

In addition to the USAToday version, Danny Schechter offers Quotes for April Fools Day:

"Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld , in an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN March 23: "The course of this war is clear. The outcome is clear. The regime of Saddam Hussein is gone. It's over.

"Vice-President Dick Cheney , predicted "I don't think it would be that tough a fight" in an interview with NBC television last September.

"Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff , in a breakfast meeting March 4, 2003: "What you'd like to do is have it be a short, short conflict. The best way to do that is have such a shock on the system, the Iraqi regime would have to assume early on the end is inevitable."

"Richard Perle, last winter: "I don't believe we have to defeat Saddam's army. I think Saddam's army will defeat Saddam. There may be pockets of resistance, but very few Iraqis are going to fight to defend Saddam Hussein." [MORE]

IRAQ WAR - DAY 12 Moron Neocons, uh, more on Neocons

The Hubris of the Neocons
by David Corn

"We were dealing with a complicated cultural and ethnic problem which we never came to understand. In other words, it was our ignorance or innocence, if you will, which led us to misassess, not comprehend, and make a lot of wrong decisions, which one way or another helped to affect the outcome."

That was Richard Helms, in 1981, talking about the Vietnam war. Someone could be saying something similar about the decisions of the 'neocons' and the outcome of the Iraq war. [MORE]

IRAQ WAR - DAY 11 Civilian Bureaucrats at Pentagon Bungling War

If the Bush White House would have heeded the Military, there would be no Day 11 in Iraq.

Remember 911? Forget terrorists and Afghanistan. Forget China. Forget North Korea. Forget the War on Drugs and the accompanying war(s) in Central and South America. Forget Germany. Forget France... Hitler made a big mistake taking on Russia, and taking on Russia just before winter.

Although no one is saying it, if you add up all that IS being said by all who are writing on the subject, it boils down to the civilians at the Pentagon bungling a war that if the Bush White House would have heeded the military in the first place, there would be no war in Iraq today, very simply because strategically speaking, the west can't win a war against the whole Islamic world just now, or maybe ever.

The "civilians" (in the Pentagon and the White House) have a motive and they were able to convince the (ultimate) decision makers in the White House, that their agenda was viable. The civilians were wrong. The civilians know nothing about war. The civilians prevailed over the military. Most times, except for Seven Days in May, that's probably best.

Fact is, and truth is, the USUK (U.S. and U.K.) having succumbed to a "Tonkin Gulf" kind of justification for a war on Iraq, was their downfall that will take generations to ever recover from at best, or at worst their Ticket to Hell marked the end of western civilization's dominance of world affairs - after the USUK trashed the U.N., NATO, and even the Pope and all the rest of the world's church bodies that knew from the git, making war was immoral and wrong. And did I mention Wall Street? This war is a killer to the economy and for all except a few American businesses and corporations.

When Hitler and the Nazis as the Third Reich rose to conquer the world, USUK was there to defeat them. Now USUK is evolving into a full-blow 4th Reich... and there are none on earth who oppose USUK except the "Axis of Evil", who have been given no choice in the matter.

Before I got side-tracked, my only point was that the civilians at the Pentagon bungled a war that if the White House would listened their military advisors instead of that particular special interest (oil, world conquest and goof ball religious) group, there would have been no war in Iraq today.

Through Voice of America, the "official" U.S. government (administration) is blaming "the news media" for "fostering the perception" that things may not be going so well. Perception?? [MORE]

30MAR2003 War Protestors as Traitors?

Ed. note: Here is some raw data from Declan McCullagh's Politech list:

Subject: FC: Free Congress' Lisa Dean: Anti-war protester committed treason
Date: Sun, 30 Mar 2003 01:02:55 -0500
From: Declan McCullagh declan@well.com
To: politech@politechbot.com

Some of the folks at the Free Congress Foundation have been longtime subscribers to Politech, so it's a shame to see them toss about the term "treason" so loosely.

Treason is a deadly serious crime, and accusations should not be made lightly. The U.S. Constitution says: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court."

It's not just Free Congress:

"'It's almost like treason' not to back troops, vet says"

At least in 2001, the Free Congress foundation was a close ideological ally of Ashcroft's and worked diligently to ensure Ashcroft's Senate confirmation as attorney general (http://www.freecongress.org/media/2001/010131.asp). Let's hope that Ashcroft's Justice Department doesn't take such a loose view of what kinds of antiwar protests are treasonous.

Unfortunately, this doesn't reassure me at all:

Anti-war Protestors: It's Time YOU Start Imitating Our Troops!
By Lisa S. Dean

When it comes to supporting freedom of speech, I'm right there fighting with the next guy. But as with anything, there are limits to what freedom of speech can tolerate.

In San Francisco last week, protesters rallied carrying a banner reading, "We Support Our Troops Who Shoot Their Officers." Now, moronic slogans such as "Bush is Hitler" and "Uncle Sam is a Terrorist" are tolerated because we, as a nation, support the right for even the dumbest of our citizens to publicly dissent. That's what democracy is all about, or so they say. But that banner isn't expressing dissent and it's not freedom of speech. It's supporting sedition and is downright treasonous.

In an attempt to calm the fury of patriots who wanted to rip these protesters in two, an apparently soft-hearted resident of San Francisco rationally explained where these protestors were coming from. He opined that they have fallen on hard times because of the dot.com failures and are lashing out at anything in order to vent their frustration. Nice try but NO SALE! You mean to say that someone can act irresponsibly, even going so far as to put the lives of others at risk, just because you are throwing a temper tantrum over your miserable, sorry life? I don't think so.

Look, whatever you may think about this war, remember that these men and women are serving their nation and as a citizen of their nation, they are serving YOU. They are putting their lives at risk FOR YOU. They aren't doing this for publicity, or for some other self-serving reason, they are doing it FOR YOU. And in case you didn't hear me, let me say it again, THEY ARE RISKING THEIR LIVES FOR YOU!

So instead of insulting them, why not try imitating them? Skip Starbucks, throw down your protest banners and go help out in a soup kitchen. Go mentor a needy child. Go do something thoughtful for a family who has a loved one in Iraq right now. In other words, go and do something other than sitting around feeling sorry for yourself and taking out your self-pity on a society that you think owes you the comfortable lifestyle to which you have become accustomed. Spend some time contributing something to the country by serving somebody else, just like our troops.

Ed. note: Lisa S. Dean's perception of reality is accepting of a war that shouldn't have ever been. Advocating violence, if it is telling the conscripts to frag the brass OR suggesting that it is OK to join the military in the first place and be trained to kill people is reptile thinking. We (the ordinary non-reptiles) didn't ask anyone to do what the Administration is asking the military to do in our name - translated by Ms Dean as "RISKING THEIR LIVES" for us exercisers of free speech. The Iraq war is a back room deal cooked up by a few who had no right to start the war or use our military to accomplish their lame goals.

Civilian Bureaucrats at Pentagon Bungling War
http://www.voanews.com/article.cfm?objectID=1E1028AE-6166-40B4-98BE1C5BC764224B

As above, the Administration is blaming the news media for suggesting that there is cross-thinking on how many troops should have been sent to Iraq in order to insure success. The real question to be answered is how was it the Administration didn't listen to the military that is tasked with defending us? In this war, "defense" was never, ever a think-through part of the equation. Our military advisors would never have advocated an offensive "first strike" onto the other guy's turf.

Just as various of our State department officials have justifiably resigned in response to the Bush war, it would have been perfectly appropriate for some of our high muckety-muck military officials to resign rather than dutifully "follow orders" that could end up costing them their jobs anyhow; for committing war crimes. Unless Bush wins this war, which he won't, he and his accomplices will sooner or later be deemed war criminals, and like Pinochet or Kissinger, they will be limited as to where on this planet they might travel freely without fear of arrest, prosecution and punishment.

LATEST NEWS FROM Iraq Colombia The Philippines North Korea France

Michael Moore's documentary, Bowling for Colombine, wins at France's prestigious awards ceremony in Paris.

In his acceptance speech Moore thanked France for "having the courage to stand up and say no" to US plans to attack Iraq.

"One of the best definitions of an ally, of a friend, is that your friend is the one who can tell you when you're wrong," he said.

"So thank you for showing us the way, for standing up and for something very important... I want to let you know that there are tens of millions of Americans who feel the same way."

Moroccan artists pay tribute to US anti-war stars. "We praise the courage of American stars who said no to war in Iraq," said Mohamed Bakrim, secretary general of the association of the Casablanca cinema festival.

Bush: The Fictitious President

Michael Moore, one of the first signatories of the "Not in my name" appeal, symbolizes resistance to war and to violence, he said adding "with their commitment against war, American stars have given another image of America."

Michael criticized Bush and the USUK war in Iraq, during his Oscar acceptance speech at the Academy Awards. The documentary maker who won his first Oscar Sunday for Bowling for Columbine, had said "We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elect a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man who's sending us to war for fictitious reasons, whether it's the fiction of duct tape or the fiction of orange alerts. We are against this war, Mr. Bush! Shame on you, Mr. Bush! Shame on you!"

Michael Moore to Tackle Bush/bin LadenTies in Next Doc

Michael Moore will depict alleged dealings between two generations of the Bush and bin Laden families in his next documentary "Fahrenheit 911."

"The primary thrust of the new film is what has happened to the country since Sept. 11, and how the Bush administration used this tragic event to push its agenda," Moore tells Variety . "It certainly does deal with the Bush and bin Laden ties. It asks a number of questions that I don't have the answers to yet, but which I intend to find out."

The documentary will suggest that the business dealings between George Bush and Osama bin Laden's late father led to George W. Bush and Osama bin Laden becoming mortal enemies.

"The senior Bush kept his ties with the bin Laden family up until two months after Sept. 11," Moore says. "The bin Ladens invested heavily in the Carlyle Group, which has its hands in a number of pies and is the 11th largest defense contractor even though it mostly buys failing defense companies and sells them for profits."

800 American professors sign document warning of Israeli ethnic cleansing

Israel/Palestine: How to End the War of 1948 by Tanya Reinhart
We join with our Israeli colleagues in calling for vigilance as events unfold in Israel and the Occupied Territories. With an average of more than $10 million dollars per day of American tax dollars going to Israel, we believe Americans cannot remain silent while crimes as abhorrent as ethnic cleansing are being openly advocated.

We urge our government to communicate clearly to the government of Israel that the expulsion of people according to race, religion or nationality would constitute crimes against humanity and will not be tolerated. For more information about the U.S. letter, including instructions on how to sign it, see: www.professorsofconscience.org.
