Ed. note re: Palestinian uprising (Intifada). -- Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi here on Sunday accused the US Administration and President Gorge W. Bush of fanning Zionist regime. "We differentiate between terrorists and those fighting to liberate their lands. We never consider those nations struggling to liberate their motherland from foreign enemies as terrorists." -- March 31, IRNA

17APR2002 Bill Evans had Balls enough - Or is "classical background" the key?

From an earlier conversation or monologue, I thought you might like to read this Dedrick Muhammad piece Why I Am Going To The Middle East. You all may be right in your quest for a Gandhi/MLK-like peace. Maybe I'm just too old with too many years of cynicism or emotionally locked into my youth-time so much I can't even imagine what you people think about or hope for in having gracefully adjusted to the mature idealism that seems to go with well being and being well.

Remember Tito? Now there was a Communist!! What's the difference when the focus of our existence is our art and the art and artistic expereience we share? Our work, the focus, and a good sense of freedom on demand... Arturo Sandoval is going on the road (to New Orleans, and maybe LA or San Francisco), playing piano. I saw/heard the "story" on CNN Headline News.

Malcolm by contrast didn't die for any kind of peace, he was murdered by madmen, and by the Grace of God (or Betty's sence of what Martin died for), the perp walks about the planet in the shoes of an OJ, or maybe he walks in theirs because they walked. Malcolm is long gone like a slingshot pulled back and we wait, especially in Palestine, they wait for the sacrifice to have somehow been justified. We (in America) have waited for so long, and in Palestine, the clock has yet to ticket a talk. Arafat ranted today about being holed up in Ramallah, and all the dead Palestinians. Powell, among the walking dead said words having nothing to do with Arafat's rant.

I can't imagine where one's head would have to be to just say, well I think I'll go to al-Quds (Jerusalem) today, to help make peace. Haj (in Sa'udi Arabia) and al-Quds are completely off-limits for my kind of Muslim. Forget who, they hardly have a clue as to what it was Malcolm's dream might have been. Ah, remember who; maybe Coltrane, maybe Coltrane's devotion. God, how they hate devotion. How little devotion has to do with Cardinals and Bishops unless you love baseball, beads after Mass or chess, America.

America and Iran are about the only places where the details of this kind of struggle can be worked out just now. The kind of peace we imagine is so practical, and unlike the kind Gandhi and MLK had to die for (and even the children of Palestine), the kind of practical peace I imagine is about business, civilization-building rather than nation-building, and our artistic skills put to work in a kind of dance we get to live, in the best of all possible worlds; there I see Malcolm, like in that club the other night...

I wrote to Paul after the gig about naming the Sunday night Jazz at Traveler's Cove combo, the "Dzuro/Biondi Quintet"

Waitaminute. There are only four musicians. It would have to be called the Dzuro/Biondo Quartet...

There is an olde spirit hovering about the session and the blessing is the dynamic or working number, so his inclusion (is essential) to the combo and the naming of the Sunday night lovefest as opposed to the marriage made in hell, so easily named and numbered; i.e., one for each spirit

When the way has been made already how can we settle for less, why would we?? No way I know. We are so comfortable here. Are we as grateful as we are comfortable?

Jordan's queen accuses Israel of 'human rights catastrophe'

15APR2002 Southern Oregon Militia - on the IRS: A warning

A TAX AUDIT HOLOCAUST IS COMING

You didn't see this in WorldNetDaily, NBC, CBS or ABC. This is an exclusive report and "heads up" from the SOM's Carl Worden

If you thought past excesses and outrages committed by the IRS had been largely corrected, you were right, and now you're wrong. What do I mean? Well, the present Bush Administration remembers very well what it cost Daddy Bush when he broke his, "Read my lips: No new taxes!" promise, and you also know our current President Bush has also pledged not to raise taxes at a time when the nation is at war and spending money it doesn't have. [Continued]

14APR2002 President Hugo Chavez had become a thorn in Washington's side

The "list" list of perceived crimes against George WWIII & Company - follow up

Venezuela is an influential member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the world's fourth largest oil producer, and has contributed a great deal to stabilizing global oil prices and balancing supply and demand. "In fact, the Venezuelan OPEC Secretary General Ali Rodriguez was a leading figure in helping shape an unprecedented convergence among member states. The unity helped regulate prices and blocked non-OPEC members from dominating the market.

The populist President Hugo Chavez had become a thorn in Washington's side because of his independent policies. The United States had frowned on Chavez' bid to secure higher oil prices and on the land reform scheme he launched last November. Since his first election campaign, Chavez cultivated an anti-American attitude while keeping the United States as Venezuela's main oil customer.

Chavez incurred the wrath of George WWIII & Company when he accused the US of killing children and innocent people in its war on terrorism in Afghanistan, in the wake of the September 11 attacks on US soil.

Relations further deteriorated when Chavez visited Washington's arch-enemies, Libya's Moamer Qadhafi and Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Political observers believe that all this provided enough reason for US officials' attempt to topple Chavez through a military coup. The plot failed as popular protests in support of Venezuelan president forced the interim government to resign and allowed Chavez to reassume power until free elections.

Until the end of the 20th century, US administration succeeded in keeping with the balance of power in its favor through getting rid of its rivals by inciting violent uprisings or military coups in various parts of the globe.

Iran Daily, an English-language newspaper in the Islamic Republic of Iran, wrote:

"Things have changed now as more nations and governments today are irritated at the US hegemony and are determined to shape their future with their own hands. Hope that Chavez' victorious return to power teaches a lesson to Washington bigwigs and gives them the wake-up call."

25JAN2001 Enron makes big money off California energy crisis

One of the biggest beneficiaries of the California power crisis is a Texas energy conglomerate that more than any other single company has helped bankroll President Bush's political career. Enron Corporation of Houston is among a handful of a new generation of independent electric power brokers and producers that have reaped giant revenue increases from California's power shortages and higher natural gas prices nationwide. According to the January 2001 AP report. "Right behind Enron in campaign contributions from energy companies was Atlanta based Southern Co., whose Southern Energy subsidiary, recently renamed Mirant, is an electricity supplier in California."

The 21JAN2002 edition of Time features Enron Spoils the Party - Bush wants his State of the Union speech to drown out those stories linking Enron and the White House; an extensive article by Michael Duffy and John Dickerson, with reporting by Cathy Booth Thomas (Dallas), and Karen Tumulty and Michael Weisskopf (Washington).

The smoking gun. Did Duh & Company do Enron's bidding during California's electricity crisis? See: Anthony York Salon.com - 16JAN2002
