Hoefelmeyer's perpetuating the status quo for those who can afford "I got mine, to hell with everybody else!" While I can't argue against Jerry or Ralph's version of a USA reality check, and don't necessarily want to, it is this kind of cleverness that keeps the Sonys of this world (exploiting their artists going indie) and the Israels of this world manifesting as the oppressed becoming the oppressor (at US taxpayer expense), and the emergence of the Americas of this world (as against the whole rest of the world) and seeming to get away with a kind of knee-jerk "Let's (within the context of SUVs) roll!" Let's look at ("good German") government-issue wide-track Four Passenger Tanks... or the pretzel replacing Starrs and Barrs or the swastika. As a matter of "policy" it's easy to predict that the status quo "policy" could backfire, in our lifetimes or even six months ago.   Today I read in Wired that folk are less keen on a National ID than they were right after 911 re: Security v. Privacy. Not only did the "terrorists" knock down a couple of our buildings that won't be rebuilt, they opened the door for the likes of George WWIII & Company to Reaganize the United States into a constant state of war with suspended civil rights that won't be restored to match. At this rate, among the future enemies of the U.S. and Picadilly Circusland, will be Germany, and France, and the rest of the European Union. And WHY? Starting with the WHY 911 bridge to the WHY SUV (distraction) Beltway, and not having to bother with up-together fairness AND freedom considerations, that's the "WHY?" and the "WHY NOT?" of a mindless crap-shoot... or a snapshot of a cave in while sleeping belly up to the bar translated as, yes! This is America! September 11 hijackers granted US visas - www.ananova.com A flight school where two of the September 11 hijackers trained received a letter saying they had been approved for visas. Rudi Dekkers, the owner of Huffman Aviation, a CIA-front flight school, told CNN he is incredulous the letters arrived so long after the deaths of Mohammed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi - and two and a half years since they applied for the visas, in August 2000. "That is why we don't understand why this has come in today and why this was not done a year ago," Dekkers said. 
From Carl Worden I normally leave virus warnings to everybody else, but I do appreciate receiving them even if they sometimes turn out to be hoaxes. However there is something very seriously wrong about this particular virus hiding in the Microsoft Security e-mail notice that I need to alert you to. I got a live update on new virus definitions from Norton yesterday, 3/11/2002. This morning when I was opening my e-mail, my Norton AV software caught the virus -- in just one message. I was unable to repair, so I quarantined the little bug and deleted it. However, since then I have received three duplicates of the same message with attachment, and my Norton AV didn't detect any of them, including one that just came through after I got another live update from Norton today. Every other virus that has come through as a duplicate has been caught by Norton. So either the virus isn't in the attachment on the three duplicates, or this is one of those viruses that is able to disable your Anti-Virus software and cause all kinds of problems. I will try to contact Symantec and let them know. If you have any enlightening info for me, I'd appreciate receiving it. Take care. Carl F. Worden 14MAR2002 UPDATE One of my readers told me to reinstall Norton AV, reboot the machine and do another live update, which I did. This morning, another phony Microsoft alert came in containing a different virus than the W32.gibe. Norton caught it, I had to quarantine it, and I deleted it. Now let's see if another comes in and Norton fails to catch it. If that happens I'm going to conclude the bugs are messing with the virus detection software and I will reinstall Norton again.
