08MAR2002 More 911 Humor - What next Dead Kennedy Jokes??

Through the eyes, ears, and mouths of stand up comics, journalism, according to the straight media has reached an all time low verging on offers from our green-haired news maiden at www.ananova.com to be fed daily "Bad Taste" news alerts, because a cartoon ridiculing widows of World Trade Centre victims as publicity seeking and greedy sparked outrage. The cartoon, Terror Widows, was quickly withdrawn after it went on The New York Times website. It lampooned victim's relatives as getting rich on charity aid and preening for TV cameras. The relatives say they are disgusted. Ted Rall's drawing shows a widow with a pile of money in her lap telling a newsman that she still mourns her lost husband. "Fortunately, the $3.2 million I collected from the Red Cross keeps me warm at night," she says. Another frame shows a widow flippantly mentions her husband was on fire when he called her from the twin towers on September 11 - then complimenting a news host on his tie. What might have been funnier, if the man who was on fire while talking to his wife from the cell phone had been falling out of the sky after jumping from a WTC window after being hit by one of those planes.

No doubt the survivors of WTC victims is manifest sadness, overwhelming sadness and for each individual family member or for the whole nation remembering the assassination of Robert Kennedy or Martin; the grief has a lasting impact. When our own parents die of natural causes, the sadness never goes away. To the degree we love is to the degree our hearts are broken and the pain, the hurt never goes away.

When we (Democrats and "democrats") lost the 2000 Election on December 13th to a selection by a Supreme Court overriding the election process, many a heart ached for America. Not only did we lose an election, but the usurper and "occupier" of the White House unleashed crimes against ordinary Americans, from giving tax refunds that were not tax refunds at all, to making a horrible war in Afghanistan that doesn't end terrorism but does further line the pockets of the Bush and bin Laden families through the Carlyle Group, representing mostly American defense contractors, and other well-heeled coupon-clipping investors. Bush Budget Raids Social Security Surplus for Next Decade. Bush Shifts Toxic Cleanup Costs to Taxpayers. Enron proves that pension reform is more important than ever. Neither Bush nor the Republicans mention "Enron" in relation to the Enron scandal.

Danny Schechter, one of my favorite online journalist hacks, who wrote a no humor article that may also be of interest to readers who are not necessarily news junky or lifetime hope-to-die politico hacks, wherein, in the context of 911 (does anyone remember 911...) Danny pokes pins in the voodoo doll of journalistic jingoism, starting with the "who" "what" "where" and "when" of 911, and then reminds us that the not often needed "how" got woven into the 911 story, and that the "why" although avoided like the plague also became part of journalistic inquiry. Also, obviously, kept at a safe distance, like the "anthrax" part of the story... Danny said, perhaps understandably, the "why" was not so well explored. An understatement. He wrote, "Television reached for its cast of familiar pundits who often turned out to be confused and predictable..."

Danny asks the journalists of this world, "After September 11: How Can We Cover The World Differently?" The article won't be a waste of your time, even though after 911, cocooning, personalities, local news and cheap entertainment seems more interesting to the readers than any variation of Ted Koppel and the very Nightline that was instrumental in converting yours truly from "Americans just don't get it" to Islam, some three years after the "52 Hostages for 444 Days" incident. I was a slow learner...

American journalists (with the exception of very, very few), and Americans generally don't get the fact that the United States has fallen into the same Nazi-like trap the "Good Germans" fell into during a same kind of 1930s as we have at the turn of this 21st century; that then led to WWII. We have at the helm of this government 80 years later, WWIII & Company, who on a daily basis are making war off shore, and enslaving the American people and press to a lock-step give-away of our rights and freedoms, the likes of which were never known in all the world. The straight media is focused on bad 911 jokes, and not giving near enough attention to the enron-factor as the way too much of American business does business world-wide, and our civil right being flushed, and WHY 911?

There also seems to be denial of some hocus pokus belief that permeates our society that as a matter of policy, "Whoever turns their back on Israel, God will turn His back on them" was as much the "why" of 911 as any other single dynamic at work that day, and for the years leading up to 1948, and the years leading up to the Balfour Declaration before that, etc., etc., etc.

Another unreported story is that of the so-called "American Jihad" as conducted by the TV Evangelist Taliban-types; against all non-right-wing nutso religious groups, to lobby law makers to continue the Support of Isreal policy that has been in effect since the Truman, Eisenhower and Nixon days, all the way up through George WWIII & Company. Also note the Reverend Billy Graham, a hope-to-die Jew hater has had many a President's ear in this regard. It's time for the journalists of this world to break the story and break the spell. It isn't as though journalists are "making" news by telling the story truthfully... [To be continued]

06MAR2002 The War on Drugs - The Sunday Herald (Scotland)

Now, if they would go ahead and sell the drugs through pharmacies at 15% over cost, they will put the smugglers and street dealers out of business overnight, and the vampire will have met its stake. No drug pushers on the street = vastly reduced new drug users entering the pipeline to Hell. I would love to see this happen in my own nation in my lifetime. -- Carl F. Worden

This is a great break-through, Carl. No one wants to be first. They want to be rich, but they don't want to be first. Go fig. Anyhow, for Scotland to be first already, the rest should fall like a southeast Asian domino. This is the best War on Drugs news I've heard since the War on Drugs began. Nothing would please me more than putting the CIA and other organized crime entities out of business. -- dxm

An open letter from Carl Worden

Ladies & gentlemen: Once in a while I read or hear someone's opinion that legalizing drugs would be immoral. These are almost always opinions offered by Christians who really don't understand the issue at all, and certainly not God's position. So I am revealing my response to one such writer without revealing his name, in the hopes it helps you understand this debate better and enable you to answer similar arguments you encounter. -- Carl F. Worden

Legalizing drugs is a moral issue for you, huh? Whose morals? If you are going to suggest God wants certain substances banned, then you will have to ask yourself why He didn't ban them. Everything God gave us can be used for both good or evil, from a rock to build a church, to a rock to crush a man's skull.

You've made an interesting assumption that drugs are evil and we must ban them by law to keep people from hurting themselves with them. It is not possible for a thing like a substance to be evil or good. Only mankind makes that choice, based upon what he does with it. But if we are to follow God's example, He has never told us to ban anything except graven images and certain behaviors like homosexuality, witchcraft, etc. Did God ban alcohol? No, but He did advise we use it in moderation, and the fact is that alcohol is a much bigger drug problem that illegal drugs. But did God demand alcohol be banned? No. Only mankind thought it would be a good idea to ban alcohol, and that decision led to evils far greater than those of simple alcohol abuse. God knew that.

So you want to debate morals? Okay. Let's talk about the basis for good conduct. It's called wisdom, and the wisest of the wise have always been particularly insightful where it comes to human nature. They allow for the consequences of human nature in everything they design, be it legislation or a simple business plan.

I find it highly immoral to create an atmosphere wherein humans are tempted to do something wrong or hurtful. The War On Drugs has done exactly that. Tell the people they can't have something, and it places value on that something. That leads people to take a chance to get filthy rich selling that something and creating a market for it. In the final analysis, the more money and effort placed on drug interdiction has unintentionally caused an even greater glut of drugs to be smuggled into this country. That is as unwise and downright foolish as it gets.

The same thing happened with alcohol during Prohibition. Everybody knew where to go to get a drink, including the cops, just like I know where to go to buy drugs if I want to. Prohibition financed the formation of huge criminal gangs engaged in all forms of murder and mayhem, corrupting cops, judges and government officials in the process. The same thing is happening right now as a result of the War On Drugs.

So it never was a moral issue. The reason the drug problem hasn't been dealt with appropriately is that those charged with accomplishing a resolution to the drug problem lacked wisdom: They failed to incorporate human nature into their plan, and human nature emerged to defeat their purpose.

So I once again remind you that God never told us to ban anything except graven images, and taken literally, I'm willing to bet you've got a few of them around the house. But God certainly did instruct His children to learn wisdom and become wise, and it would be different if we didn't have an example of what NOT to do, as the disaster of Prohibition clearly proved.

So you are bemused by my position on this issue? Buddy, you are playing for the Prohibition team, a team destined to lose like it always does.

25JAN2001 Enron makes big money off California energy crisis

One of the biggest beneficiaries of the California power crisis is a Texas energy conglomerate that more than any other single company has helped bankroll President Bush's political career. Enron Corporation of Houston is among a handful of a new generation of independent electric power brokers and producers that have reaped giant revenue increases from California's power shortages and higher natural gas prices nationwide. According to the January 2001 AP report. "Right behind Enron in campaign contributions from energy companies was Atlanta based Southern Co., whose Southern Energy subsidiary, recently renamed Mirant, is an electricity supplier in California."

The 21JAN2002 edition of Time features Enron Spoils the Party - Bush wants his State of the Union speech to drown out those stories linking Enron and the White House; an extensive article by Michael Duffy and John Dickerson, with reporting by Cathy Booth Thomas (Dallas), and Karen Tumulty and Michael Weisskopf (Washington).
