McGruder appeared on a NAACP Images Award show the other night, and quipped something about how interesting, ironic, clever, whatever it was that he and Condolezza Rice would both be invited to the same awards program and each be given a Special Recognition award. Little Richard was also given a Special Recognition award. As a cartoonist, this young chap is quite good. Good drawings. Good "stories" and very, very political. As a stand up comic, as seen on TV, Aaron's got more total balls than Bill Cosby, and/or Richard Prior, who blew himself up free-basing cocaine (although it was a funny bit - not so spectacular as Ricky Nelson's plane crash), and/or Eddie Murphy, caught with his hand in a transvestite prostitute's panties. Aaron McGruder without making a big deal about it appears cut more from the Lennie Bruce cloth than the Flip Wilsons of this world. What is the comparative humor in 911 and the assassinations of Malcolm, Martin, JKF and/or Robert Kennedy? Is there humor in daily racism? Is there humor in body bags flown in from Afghanistan? Is there humor in 911 lawyer jokes? Is there humor in heroin? Not according to Lennie Bruce... Is there humor in the U.S. Supreme Court being reduced to a Presidential "selection" committee? Is there humor in the Carlyle Group catalyst and glue holding the Bush and bin Laden families together? Is there humor in starting a convenient war so the Defense Contractor partners in the Carlyle Group can make lots of money making bombs the size of Volkswagons? Is there humor in bombs the size of Volkswagons? Is there humor in George WWIII starting a trade war with the European Union, and costing union jobs in the US? Is there humor in patriotism and nationalism being defined by who waves a flag, and who actually votes on election day? Is there humor in chads and votes getting counted or not? Is there humor in Attorney John Ashcroft covering up naked statues or Trent Lott accusing dissenters as treasonous and taking unfair advantage of Freedom of Speech in this country? Is there humor in newspapers with First Amendment protection self-censoring and devaluing for the purpose of cutting down trees to make paper for lining the bottom of birdcages? Is there humor in Arabian head gear or Palestinian girls known as bombshells? Is there humor in CIA officers and American officials supporting death squads and South American and Afghani drug dealers? Is there humor in (US) government agencies and institutions of higher learning teaching training and assisting torturers? Is there humor in the CIA dissemination of assassination manuals under the Freedom of Information Act? Is there humor in US Intelligence agencies selling weapons to terrorist-friendly governments? Is there humor in US Intelligence agencies overthrowing democratically-elected governments, and aiding dictators who murder and maim?
