Yachats WAVE events follow on Saturday, the 22d, building on the theme: "SOS Ð SOS -- Sending a Peace Message to Bush." A silent "Walking Meditation" starts at the Commons at 10:00 a.m. New as well as traditional WAVE events kick off at 11:00 a.m. near the Commons, mid-city. The Valley and Coast publics are invited to participate and bring their creativity. Gail Parker, of Yachats and with "Catholic Mothers for Peace" says, "We will be doing new things. Large media has bottled-up the strength of the peace cause in America. To respond, we are asking the public to bring written 'peace messages' which we will bottle by the case-load right there and deliver to main media editorial offices across America. Bottled messages sent directly to national media demonstrate the large under-reported opposition to Bush's dominator-style foreign policy. Protecting our troops means keeping them out of unnecessary harms way." Parker says "We encourage Oregonians to bring to Yachats their own personal way of sending a message to Bush - through music, drumming, costume... we hereby open the door for their bottled-up feelings." A silent "Walking Meditation" starts at the Commons at 10:00 a.m. More information on the events Yachats from Gail Parker at gailparker@earthlink.net or 541- 547-4746. "WAVE events at Bandon and Newport had hundreds of people involved, lots of food, music, young people, and received a huge positive response from their respective communities," says Rand Dawson, a frequent participant. "Coos Bay and North Bend should be bigger, more hopeful, more powerful. Yachats will take us in new directions. We need to make our views known in order to protect our civil liberties." |
